BETONG: Close cooperation between the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) and Women’s Bureau is needed to ensure more beneficial economic activities to be organised.

In a news report from the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu said the Women’s Bureau is one of the bureaus under JKKK and noted that almost all JKKK in the constituency had established the said bureau.

According to him, the economic activities that could be increased include baking, cooking and handicrafts production.

In addition, he said social and cultural activities such as ‘ngajat’ dance classes also needed to be continued to ensure the heritage and culture would be passed on to the next generation.

In terms of education, Rapu added that a tuition programme could also be held for children in the longhouses.

With funds allocated to each JKKK and the Women’s Bureau, he called on both to use the funds transparently in organising programmes that could bring economic, social and educational impact.
