SARIKEI: An area of 0.8 acre was destroyed in a bushfire at Jalan Kim San here yesterday afternoon.

The 4.20pm incident did not result in any injuries or property damage.

Sarikei Fire and Rescue Department chief Mahmuddin Narudin said his team rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call at 4.27pm.

“When we arrived at the scene, we found that the wild fire was spreading. It took us about 11 minutes to control the blaze.

“The fire was completely extinguished at 4.57pm. After that, we performed a follow-up to prevent recurrence,” he said when contacted by reporters.

Meanwhile, the weather in the area was cool after heavy rain
yesterday morning.

However, the people were reminded against conducting any open burning because vegetation is still dry and can easily catch fire.

“The number of bushfire calls has increased over the last few days. The whole situation is still under control, but we must all play safe,” he said.
