KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has denied any knowledge of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) MPs who wanted Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to stay on as Prime Minister.

“I know about the meeting but I do not know what transpired in the meeting,” he told reporters after officiating at the Kuching City Day 31st anniversary celebration held at Sarawak Islamic Complex here yesterday.

He was asked to comment on a report in an English daily that a group of opposition party members, allegedly from the Umno-Pas alliance and GPS, met with Dr Mahathir on Tuesday night.

“There was an invitation by the prime minister and also the other component parties for a chit chat (meeting). That’s all. It’s nothing (serious),” Abang Johari explained.

When a reporter asked whether GPS was involved in the next-prime minister drama, Abang Johari clarified, “No, no. We just listened.

“When people invited us, we just attended it.”
