CM receives courtesy call from Azam Sarawak

KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Open received a courtesy call from Angkatan Mansang Zaman Sarawak (Azam Sarawak) led by its president Datuk William Patrick Nyigor at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

The purpose of the courtesy call was to brief the chief minister on its activities, propose suggestions to further strengthen Azam Sarawak as well as get feedback and guidance.

Met by reporters after the courtesy call, William said that Abang Johari had given assurance to provide financial assistance to carry out activities to further strength Azam Sarawak.

He added that Abang Johari also gave insights on several matters such as empowerment of digital economy and promoting the idea to the community.

The chief minister also wanted focus to be given on the youth so that they were more aware and could play their roles not only in technology but also in the arts such as creative arts, performance arts and so on.

William also said that Azam Sarawak would focus on instilling awareness among the youth to be more attentive and sensitive towards the environment in order to achieve the goal of having a green generation by the year 2030.

Azam, which means ‘Gerakan Kemajuan’,is a non-profit and non-government organisation (NGO) which seeks to facilitate the development efforts in Sarawak through development communication.

Also present during the courtesy call were deputy chairwoman Datuk Norhyati Mohd Ismail, honorary secretary Mohamad Ariff Irwani Azahari, honorary treasurer Datuk William Wei How Sieng, Azam chief executive officer Lelia Sim Ah Hua and other members.
