MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is scheduled to perform an earth-breaking ceremony for the Federation of Orang Ulu Sarawak Malaysia (Forum) headquarters and cultural centre on December 15.

The new Miri landmark will sit on a five-acre piece of land located adjacent to the Pujut bus terminal and Miri Hospital.

All Orang Ulu dignitaries, heads of government departments, community leaders and the Forum members are expected to attend the event.

In compliance with the current standard operating procedures (SOPs), only 450 people are invited to witness the historical moment for the Orang Ulu in Sarawak.

This was told by the organising chairman of the earth breaking ceremony, Telang Usan assemblyman, Dennis Ngau who is also the deputy president of Forum, during a meeting on Saturday.

The meeting was also attended by acting Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd.

A special prayer will be held during the earth breaking ceremony for smooth implementation of the project.

The RM25 million Forum building was designed to reflect its nine members, namely Persatuan Kayan Sarawak, Persatuan Kebangsaan Kenyah Sarawak, Rurum Kelabit Sarawak, Persatuan Bisaya Sarawak, Persatuan Saban Sarawak, Persatuan Berawen Sarawak, Persatuan Lun Bawang Sarawak, Petipun Penan Sarawak and Lakiput Sarawak.

“It will be another landmark of the total inclusiveness of our Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, because today, we have in the state other buildings for communities, namely the Bidayuhs, the Chinese and the list goes on,” said Dennis.

“The chief minister recently launched one for the Iban/Dayaks and one for the Malay community and this coming December 15, he will be performing the earth breaking ceremony for the Orang Ulu Forum building,” he said.

“In which other state can you find what we have in Sarawak? Thus, we Sarawakians must count our blessings for having leaders like our chief minister who care for all of us,” he added.
