BINTULU: Six men enjoying their drinks at an entertainment outlet here were arrested by police early Friday morning for flouting the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

All suspects between the ages of 19 and 68 were arrested by the police at 12.05am on Friday.

Bintulu police chief Superintendent Zulkipli Suhaili said all the suspects were detained during routine monitoring carried out during the CMCO period.

He said the police had earlier heard noises coming from the entertainment outlet.

The team later knocked on the door several times after introducing themselves as the police until the door was opened by a local man, he said.

Upon investigation, Zulkipli said six local men were found consuming alcohol at a table.

Also found were three local women hiding in the kitchen of ​​the entertainment outlet believed to be trying to avoid police investigation.

The suspects were taken to the Bintulu IPD Criminal Investigation Department for investigation under Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 2020 as well as Section 269 of the Penal Code, he said.

Meanwhile, the owner of the entertainment outlet premise would also be investigated under Section 5(2) of the Entertainment Ordinance 2001 for failing to produce any legal documents to operate the business.

Meanwhile, Zulkipli urged the community in areas here to continue to comply with the CMCO to curb the spread of Covid-19.
