KUCHING: Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said he has no problem with whoever is picked to take up the Cabinet portfolios left vacant by outgoing Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh.

Dr Sim said he will go with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg on his selection as “it is his prerogative”.

“The chief minister knows best and I am confident whoever he picks will be the most qualified person,” Dr Sim said when contacted yesterday.

Dr Sim was asked for his comments on a statement made by former SUPP president Tan Sri Dr George Chan who said it would be “good” for the Chinese community if the Second Finance Minister post is given to the party.

Wong has announced he is quitting the state Cabinet where he is Second Finance Minister and Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce.

SUPP Youth chief Michael Tiang said a reshuffle looks inevitable because Wong’s departure will leave a vacuum.

“In the event that there is a Cabinet reshuffle, the SUPP Youth chief would like to propose that the Second Finance Minister post be given to our party.

“It is also good if SUPP is given more positions such as assistant ministers as the party has stood by the coalition through thick and thin and has never wavered in our loyalty to the state government or its coalition parties. SUPP has proven to be a good partner,” he said.

Tiang added that SUPP will be able to serve the rakyat better if it is given a bigger representation in the state Cabinet viz the posts of Second Finance Minister and assistant ministers.
