CM’s Dept holds ‘Majlis Ibadah Korban’

KUCHING: About 140 staff members of Wisma Bapa Malaysia received sacrificial meat during a ‘Majlis Ibadah Korban’ yesterday. The programme was organised by the Chief Minister’s Department and the meat was presented by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang to the staff.

Yesterday, the department through its recreation club together with a committee from Ar-Rahman Mosque and staff of Wisma Bapa Malaysia performed a sacrificial ritual in the compound of the old State Legislative Assembly (DUN) building in Petra Jaya.

Also present were DUN Speaker Datuk Ama r Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman) Datuk Talib Zulpilip, Law, StateFederal Relations and Project Monitoring Assistant Minister Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, acting State Secretary Datuk Jaul Samion, deputy state secretaries Datuk Dr Sabariah Putit and Datuk Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Six cows were sacrificed during the event, two of which was donated by the chief minister. The rest were contributed by Talib, Sharifah Hasidah, Corporate Affairs Assistant Minister Abdullah Saidol, and Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir. About 60 staff members of Wisma Bapa Malaysia were involved in the ritual, from the slaughtering and cutting to distribution of the meat.

The programme was to give an opportunity to Muslim staff members to take part in the ritual as required by Islam. It is also to get them to foster good ties among themselves. In the latter part of the event, the chief minister and his wife spent more than a hour with other ministers and staff members enjoying a light meal.
