SIBU: Three two-storey terraced houses at Jalan Permai Jaya 9C1 were destroyed in a fire with one slightly damaged on the first day of Chinese New Year.
Firemen from Sibu Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene after receiving a call at 1.13am.
Initially the fire station received a report on a burning car parked at one of the houses. From that beginning, the fire then spread to three adjacent houses.
“The residents tried to put out the fire using five extinguishers but failed,” said the fire department.
The firemen at the scene were told to extinguish the flames using offensive and defensive techniques from one tank and the nearest fire hydrant.
The fire also spread to the fourth house but stopped by the firemen and all the occupants managed to get out to safety. The fire was brought under control just after 2.00 am.
