Cobbler and GOF member probed for killing bipolar man

The duo, suspected of killing a man with bipolar disorder, surrendered themselves at the Mile 10 police station.

PADAWAN: A cobbler and a General Operations Force (GOF) personnel have been arrested for allegedly killing a man with bipolar disorder.

The alleged murder happened in the backyard of the victim’s neighbour’s house at Kampung Jawa Semenggok, Mile 12, Jalan Kuching-Serian here around 4.30pm  on Thursday (Aug 26).

District police chief Supt Aidil Bolhassan, who confirmed the case, said the 26-year-old victim was said to be acting aggressively at the scene.

“Two men approached him and tried to calm the victim down.

“Both men later brought the unconscious victim back to his family home before he was rushed to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) by the family, accompanied by one of the men.

“The victim was pronounced dead at 6.35pm by the medical officer at SGH.”

On the same night around 9.10pm, the victim’s sister lodged a police report, alleging that her brother had been beaten by unknown individuals.

Supt Aidil said following the report, the suspects—a Corporal with the Batu Kawa GOF and a cobbler—surrendered themselves at the Mile 10 police station.

They are currently being remanded for seven days to facilitate investigation into the case, which is being classified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

“An autopsy will be performed by SGH as soon as the Covid-19 swab results are obtained.

“We will conduct a thorough investigation into the case, including identifying any witnesses at the time of the incident.”

Supt Aidil advised the public not to make any speculations that could interfere with investigation.
