PARIT BUNTAR: A coconut tree toppled onto a college student riding a motorcycle in Kuala Kurau near here yesterday, killing him on the spot, according to the Kuala Kurau Fire & Rescue Station.

The tree fell on Mohamad Ridzuan Abdul Rani, 18, a student of the Kerian Vocational College in Bagan Serai, at about 3pm in Kampung Parit Abas as he was riding back to his home here from Kuala Kurau.

Mohamad Ridzuan’s father, Abdul Rani Amran, 46, said his son had gone to Kuala Kurau to complete some college work.

“I was informed of the incident by a neighbour and rushed home,” he said at the scene of the incident.

Kuala Kurau Fire & Rescue Station operations chief Mohd Azhar Azmuni said the station was alerted to the incident at 3.04pm and it sent eight personnel in two trucks.

“Medical personnel of an ambulance which had also arrived there confirmed that the student had died,” he said, adding that the body had been handed over to the police. – Bernama
