KUCHING: A male driver perished in a head-on collision near the traffic lights at Jalan Datuk Stephen Yong, on Thursday (September 10).
The collision involved a cement mixer truck driven by the victim and a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle.
The deceased has been identified as Jawi Sieng, 42.
State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said a distress call was received about the incident around 11.15am.
“The victim was driving along Jalan Stephen Yong, heading towards Batu Kawa when he lost control and hit the divider, then entered the opposite lane, and crashed into a 4WD vehicle.
“This caused Jawi to suffer injuries on his neck, and he was pronounced dead at the accident spot by medical personnel from the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), and was subsequently taken to Forensic Unit,” he said.
The 4WD vehicle driver, who also sustained injuries, was also sent to SGH for further treatment.
