BINTULU: The new Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) line-up elected during its Triennial General Assembly (TGA) is expected to solidify the party.

Newly elected PDP deputy president Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said the combination of experienced and youth in the new line-up is in line with the party’s ideals.

He also said there is a positive increase in the number of young people who have taken an interest in politics which is very encouraging.

“It has been our stand to combine experienced leaders with new leaders so we can inject new ideas and plans. This will strengthen the party along with the new line-up of youth and women wings.

“For this year’s TGA, there were many young representatives and observers who were participating for the first time. We can see that they are full of enthusiasm which we want to further nurture and leverage on,” he said on Saturday (June 10).

Jinep who is also -Deputy Minister of Transport (Maritime and Riverine) said the party will organise various follow up programmes especially in areas without elected representatives to engage with party members.

He said these programmes would serve as a platform for party members to provide views and bring up any issues to the top leaders.

“We want to make sure that grassroots party members know that they are valuable, their voices matter and will be heard,” he said.

On the TGA, the Tasik Biru assemblyman commended the high level of gentleman temperament displayed by all party members.

“There was ‘a give and take situation’ on certain and important matters pertaining to the party. We discussed, negotiated, and agreed together, showing how we put the party’s interests above personal interests,” he said.

At the same time, he thanked Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil on his decision to withdraw from contesting for the deputy president post.

He said this illustrated how party members are putting the party’s interests, stability, and unity as a top priority.
