SIBU: Song writers, singers and performers have been urged to come out with new products and new ideas for the music industry in the country.

Dudong assemblyman Datuk Tiong Thai King made the call at the opening of the 31st state-level Chinese song singing competition organised by Great United Club here.

He pointed that the music industry in Sibu as well as the whole of Malaysia was still in the developing stage.

“We need to have more activities like this competition to provide song writers, singers and performers with the platform to develop their skills as well as to attract new talents,” he added.

Tiong’s text of speech was read by his representative, Kapitan Connie Loh, who is also Dudong Parti Bersatu Sarawak (PSB) women wing chief.

“Music brings happiness and everybody has their own favourite singers or music that they enjoy listening to.

“Good music stays in our mind and can calm us down. We also love watching live performances. Good performances can engage the audience. That’s why at the end of a concert, people would always ask for an encore and are reluctant to leave,” added Tiong.

He said as all good singers dreamed of becoming professional singers one day or have their own albums, they should pursue their dreams.

“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dream. Don’t be afraid to have dreams. If you have a dream, go after your dream, work hard for it and hopefully, one day it will come true for no dream is too big for those who pursue it,” said Tiong.

The competition attracted participants from 15 districts in the state.
