SIMUNJAN: The Sarawak government is committed to ensuring that the treasures and natural resources in the state are always preserved sustainably for the survival of future generations.

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris said, in that direction, a global agenda has been introduced which is ‘Sustainable Development Goals and the world has implemented it to curb environmental problems.

“The issue of climate change that brings together the issue of environmental destruction is giving a negative effect on us until today.

“So, I invite everyone to realise how big the impact of all these changes in the global environment will be on human life in the future, which involves the generations of our children and grandchildren in the future,” he said while officiating at the 2022 Simunjan Sejahtera Programme Postponement Ceremony at Kampung Kelka community hall, recently.

The two-day programme organised by the Simunjan District Council (MDS) in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and the Natural Resources and Environment Board (NREB) also applied elements of green practices and the 3R initiative (Reduce, Reuse & Recycle) through the Beautiful Landscape Competition.

According to Alwa, initiatives like this can be continued to inject awareness and understanding of the population in contributing to the holistic care of the environment.

“I suggest that the continuation of this kind of programme should be held every year so that what is learned today will not be forgotten. Therefore, if we can organise it every year, then we will be able to see the results one day, for example, the wasted materials that we turn into useful materials.

“I believe in the existence of agencies that teach us to reuse the waste that we always throw away such as the composting process can be produced as fertiliser, it will then become one of the economic improvements for the residents, especially in the Simunjan district,” he explained.
