KUCHING: The Transport Ministry has proposed a public transport committee in every division to further improve public transport services in the state.
The committee will be headed by the Resident of each division — tasked with carrying out a study on the weaknesses of public transport services in the state.
It is also tasked to study how to best reduce traffic congestion in towns and cities under their respective jurisdictions, said Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin (pic).
According to Lee, committee members would include bus, taxi, lorry and express boat operators.
“Based on the findings of their studies, the committees are to send feedback to the ministry,” he added after meeting with bus operators in Sibu on Wednesday.
Lee said his ministry was committed towards improving the state’s public transport system, especially bus services.
“We want bus services to continue, so we have to find an immediate solution before we can move on to the next phase,” he said, adding that there are still people who preferred to take the bus especially on long distance routes.
