KUCHING: The community has to be aware of the do and don’ts when dealing with protected animal species.

World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Sarawak chairperson Cynthia Chin noted that the 10-metre python captured in Lingga recently falls under the protected animal species.

It was reported in the local media yesterday that a colossal python was killed in the forests of Sekupang, Lingga near Sri Aman.

“I am unsure of what unfolded behind the scenes of the python’s capture, but the fact remains that it is a protected species.

“Because of that, if any member of the community stumbled upon the animal, they should report it to the authorities such as Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC),” she told New Sarawak Tribune.

“I would advise the public to cooperate with the authorities so that they can perform their responsibilities in facing such situations,” she said.
