MUKAH: The Community Engagement@Mukah programme here on Thursday (Aug 13) gave an important insight into certain matters, including laws, to attendees, particularly community leaders.

The half-day event featured talks on certain topics, presented by representatives from the Land and Survey Department, Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM), Health Department, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and the police.

The session conducted by each speaker may be short, but the message was loud and clear.

Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo described the programme as very important because it helped to raise awareness on certain issues currently happening in society.

“Hopefully, this programme would help to jaga tepi kain orang (minding other people’s business) while menjaga tepi kain sendiri  (minding own business) too, when and if necessary for the benefit of all the people,” he said at the closing of the programme.

Yussibnosh added that the programme was aimed, among other things, to empower community leaders in line with the current needs amid various challenges facing society.

Mukah District officer Shaferi Saili said the programme, the second held this year, received a 98 per cent turnout, comprising mostly community leaders and also MDDM councillors.

The first Community Engagement@Balingian programme was held in Balingian on July 29. Deputy Mukah Division Resident Abdul Halim Abdullah, MDDM walikota Kadir Jamil and Pemanca Mohamad@Mohd Jali Kawi also attended the event.
