KUCHING: Members of the public are invited to take part in a community health screening event at Kenyalang Park Community Association Hall (KPCA Hall) from 8am to 12 noon on Saturday (July 2).

According to the organising chairman Kapitan Daisy Chan, the event is jointly organised by Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK) Jalan Chawan and Kelab Rekreasi Wanita Bersatu Kuching (KRWBK).

She said the medical examination will be assisted and supported by the Nur Sejahtera Clinic under the National Population and Family Development Board (LPPKN) which is a government agency under the Ministry of Women, Family, and Social Development.

Elaborating further, she said mobile clinics and medical staff are present to provide examination services to the public.

“The examination services include basic examination (blood pressure test, body mass index, cholesterol test, and blood sugar test); Pap smear test (cervical smear test); clinical breast examination, and human papilloma virus test (HPV DNA test).

Meanwhile, chairman of KRWBK Sim Bee Kim said the price of the medical check-up packages this time is of excellent value for money especially the HPV DNA test in package.

She pointed out that for the HPV DNA test, the fee is about RM400 in private hospitals or general clinics but the whole package offered is only for RM25.
“The package also includes a basic check-up, pap smear, clinical breast examination and mammogram which is very affordable. Moreover, the basic test of Package 1 is offering only a nominal charge of RM10 to the public,” she added.

According to the organiser, only 100 people can be tested for HPV DNA Test on the said day based on the first come first serve basis.

For women who want to have a pap smear and HPV DNA Test, Chan said it is not advisable to check during menstruation and they are reminded to not douche the private part before the test.

“They are also reminded to not use any suppositories or spermicides on the private part 48 hours before the test as well as to not have sex at least 24 hours before the test,” she said.

Chan also urged members of the public not to miss this medical examination especially women as they should maintain a high degree of vigilance about their own health.

She also expressed hope for the members of public to actively attend and register early on the day.
