KUCHING:  Community leaders in the Sarikei district are selected from among locals who serve the people regardless of borders, said Penghulu Ley Kok Lun.

The Chinese community leader was responding to Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarikei branch vice-chairman Wong Pak Ming’s comment who pointed out that Ketua Masyarakat dan Ketua Kaum (KMKK) should be selected from the local people.

“Wong was referring to Minister of Transport, Datuk Lee Kim Shin who said the requirement for KMKK is that they must be from the local people themselves. This is true as it is to provide services more effectively to the people.

“In Sarikei district, the KMKK are indeed among the local people themselves. Wong still fails to understand and see the efforts that have been taken by KMKK even though it has been explained for the fourth time,” said Ley.

Ley told that Wong has yet to give a response and view his act as a waste of time.

“I do not wish to waste time to find out about Wong’s origins but I am not surprised that he does not know much about Sarikei. He only returned to Sarikei to visit relatives as stated in his press statement,” he added.
