KUCHING: Sixty-eight community leaders from the districts of Beluru and Marudi received their appointment letters in a ceremony on Sunday (Sept 13).

Local Government Assistant Minister Datuk Dr Penguang Manggil said of the number, 22 were reappointed to their respective positions while 39 others were only appointed to assume their position officially.

“Receiving the extension to their appointment letters were Pemanca Enggah, Penghulu Nyandang, Penghulu Patrick and 19 other community leaders, while 39 others just received their official appointment letters.

“Seven other new community leaders were appointed to replace those whose terms had expired or are deceased.

“Meanwhile, another seven community leaders are still waiting for their appointment letters to be issued,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Sept 13).

Earlier on Sunday, Penguang officiated at the Merdeka @ Komuniti programme for the districts of Beluru and Marudi along with a briefing on native laws to community leaders in Beluru.

Penguang who is Marudi assemblyman also presented Unit for Other Religions cheques worth RM475,000 to seven recipients, among them are Beluru BEM Church (RM75,000), Long Tisam BEM Church (RM100,000) and Sg Bakas BEM Church (RM50,000).

Also included were Ulu Teru, Rh John Merikan Sg Buti BEM Church (RM100,000), Lepong Ajai BEM Church (RM50,000), Rh Juliana Esah, Sg Mallang Atas BEM Church (RM50,000) and Bukit Lapok BEM Church (RM50,000).

At the ceremony, Penguang also presented minor rural project (MRP) grants to the village safety and development committees (JKKKs) of Kampung Damai Sg Peking Tinjar (RM40,000), Rh Salin Sg Selulit Bok Tinjar (RM35,000), Sg Urong Baroh Bakong (RM10,000), Rh Jilan Sg Sebatu Tinjar (RM20,000), Long Teran Kanan A (RM35,000), and Sungai Entulang (RM20,000).

The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) vice president presented the MRP grants to the Women Bureau of Rh Beruang Ak Empadi Sg Buri (RM5,000), Rh Suring Sg Bain (RM5,000), Parent Teacher Association (PIBG) of SK Bakas Bakong (RM40,000), Ideah Bakong community association (RM10,000) and Beluru district office club (RM10,000).

Also present were Marudi information officer Zaini Morshidi, Beluru district officer Alfred Geling, Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai and other dignitaries.
