BAU: A Kembara Merdeka@Komuniti programme kicks off at Kampung Skiat Baru here to celebrate the National Day and Malaysia Day 2022.

The programme which took place at the village’s community hall, included the flag-off ceremony for the Program Kembara Merdeka Keluarga Malaysia 2022 (KMKM2022) convoy today (Aug 10).

Information Department (JaPen) Sarawak director Jaafar Jantan said the convoy will be travelling across Sarawak from Telok Melano to Lawas and ends on Aug 31 at Betong for the state-level National Day celebration.

“We will launch the state-level National Month and the Waving of the Jalur Gemilang Flag on Aug 13 at the Kuching Waterfront and the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) atrium.

“Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will officiate at the launching ceremony,” said Jaafar.

He said during the launching ceremony, Abang Johari would lead celebrants on a walk along the iconic Darul Hana Bridge to the DUN building before officiating at a symbolic handover of the Jalur Gemilang flag and flagging-off the KMKM2022 convoy tour across Sarawak.

“KMKM2022 aims to increase the spirit of patriotism and love of country among various communities here.

“Therefore, the spirit of patriotism needs to be applied to all levels of society in all corners of Sarawak, especially among the youth to remember the sacrifices made by past heroes.

“With the theme ‘Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama’, the celebration of National Day and Malaysia Day is very much in line with the commitment and concept of harmony of the Malaysian Family based on inclusion, togetherness and gratitude,” he said.

Bau district police chief DSP Poge Nyaon, who was also present, said the programme could lift up the spirit of patriotism among the villagers, communities as well as the youth in Bau and the surrounding areas.

“Thank you to JaPen for organising the programme in Bau and I am sure this will lift up the people’s spirit of patriotism and also a love for the country.
