Community spirit shines at KTB Carnival

SERIAN: Kenyalang Tourism Booster (KTB) Carnival Empowers Community and Promotes Sustainable Tourism Serian recently played host to the KTB Carnival, an event aimed at boosting sustainable tourism, promoting local homestays, and empowering the community to lead local tourism initiatives.

Organized through a collaborative effort spearheaded by the Innovative Youth Cooperative Sarawak Berhad (KOBIS) and the BIMP-EAGA Young Entrepreneurs Chamber (BYEC), with support from the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry & Performance Arts (MTCP), the carnival received praise from Tebedu assemblyman Dr. Simon Sinang Bada.

Dr. Simon Sinang Bada commended the initiative, emphasizing the significance of local tourism and community empowerment in shaping Sarawak’s tourism landscape. He lauded KTB’s commitment to aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, particularly SDG #8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG #11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG #17 (Partnership for Goals). This dedication reflects KTB’s commitment to fostering the active and sustainable development of eco-friendly tourism in Sarawak.

“This carnival stands as a testament to the power of community spirit and is a source of inspiration for us all,” stated Dr. Simon Sinang Bada during the carnival’s launch on Sunday, August 6.

With an inclusive approach, the carnival actively engaged local communities in all aspects of the event. The strategy aimed to equip locals with knowledge and resources to organize similar activities in the future, thereby enhancing Sarawak’s tourism potential.

Throughout the carnival, a diverse range of activities took place, including the Homestay Testimony Challenge, Modern Homestay Workshop, SUKMA Sarawak Spirit of Sports challenge, Fashion & Entertainment competition, online auction sales, and the Serian Bazaar that showcased handicrafts created by local artisans.

The KTB Carnival not only served as a platform for promoting sustainable tourism and empowering the local community but also demonstrated the spirit of collaboration and partnership in achieving common goals. It showcased Sarawak’s commitment to nurturing responsible and eco-friendly tourism practices, ensuring the region’s long-term growth and development.
