KUCHING: Two companies, Petronesa and Sanjung Etika Sdn Bhd, have paid their business zakat for 2020 to Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS).

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg witnessed the presentation of the zakat by Deputy State Secretary (Socioeconomic Transformation) Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Marzuki to Sarawak Islamic Council president Datuk Misnu Taha.

Also present during the ceremony at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today was TBS general manager Datuk Abang Shibli Abang Mohd Nailie.

It is understood that Petronesa’s business zakat amounted to RM405,500 while Sanjung Etika Sdn Bhd was RM22,046.52.

Misnu, when met by the media after the ceremony, said both companies were among the first to contribute their business revenue.

Meanwhile, Abang Shibli said he expected a five percent increase in business zakat for this year.

He said although the country was facing economic challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the rate of business zakat contribution received for 2020 did not show a decrease.
