Company donates foodstuffs to needy students

MUKAH: Balingian Energy Minerals Sdn Bhd has contributed foodstuffs and other basic necessities worth RM2,000 to Food Bank Siswa Politeknik Mukah.

The company’s Community Relations executive Nazrin Syah Abdul Halim handed over the contribution to Politeknik Mukah (PMU) deputy director (Academic) Mohd Sani Said yesterday.

The Food Bank Siswa programme was organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs.

The ministry’s Mukah Branch chief Salihin Den in a statement said, Food Bank Siswa PMU had so far received contributions in the form of food and other basic necessities worth about RM15,000 from 10 companies.

“The ministry welcomes participation from more contributors from various sectors in an effort to achieve the objective of the programme,” he said.

According to him, Food Bank Siswa PMU was implemented since last year, which was mainly aimed at helping students from B40 families.

He revealed that last semester about 300 poor students benefitted from the programme, while this semester about 400 would receive the contributions.

Among the donors were Bintulu Port Holdings Berhad, Sarawak Oil Palm Plantation (Balingian) Sdn Bhd, Nam Leong Department Store Mukah, Azka Cake House, My Bread, Tiong Kheng Sdn Bhd, Syarikat Sri Intan, Syarikat Salamula and Jalangin Pengangkutan.
