“I believe every supermarket has its standard operating procedure (SOP) to adhere to… But sometimes in cases like this, we have to understand that food items do get spoiled,” he told reporters after launching the RM5 Free Petrol Filling Programme at the Petronas petrol station, Jalan Batu Kawa, today.

Chong, who is also Stampin MP and State Democratic Action Party (DAP) chairman, was responding to a question by reporters on complaints of supermarkets selling rotten chicken.

“Actions will be taken if we find supermarkets selling something that is not consumable,” he stressed.

He added it was also every consumer’s rights to be compensated if he or she happened to buy spoiled food items.

Meanwhile, the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs ministry in Sarawak can be contacted at 082-466052 during office hours while its hotline is 1-800-88-9811.
