KUCHING: School bus and van operators must comply with standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the government, stresses Yayasan Sarawak director Azmi Bujang.

“There was a briefing with the Ministry of Transport regarding the SOP for the operations of school buses.

“The operators will ensure that students in the buses and vans are wearing face masks,” he said at the Free School Bus Service Briefing programme during the Q&A session with the media at Yayasan Sarawak on Tuesday (July 28).

Asked whether Yayasan Sarawak would implement any other move to inspect student behaviour aboard, Azmi said the matter would be discussed throughout the implementation of the programme.

“At the moment, we really hope students practise social distancing throughout the journey.

“Regarding health screening, this is implemented by the schools,” he added.

Initiated by the state government, the free school bus service will start in Kuching city and Padawan District next week on Aug 3.

The operating hours are from 5.30am to 7am, 11.30am to 2.30pm, and 5.30pm to 7pm.
