Comply with SOPs during Ching Ming

KUCHING:Those who will be visiting cemeteries during the ‘ChingMing’ festival or Chinese All Souls Day will have to comply with the restriction of no more than eight members of a family in attendance.

However, according to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) and the Unit for other Religions (Unifor) on Wednesday, for those visiting columbaria or memorial halls, the attendance is limited to two members of a family.

For cemetery visits as well as visits to columbaria or memorial halls, movement between zones is not permitted.

These visits are allowed from Mar 20 to Apr 14, between 4am and 12pm for cemeteries and from 8am to 4pm for columbaria and memorial halls.

During these visits, temperature screening, attendance recorded through MySejahtera or an attendance book, physical distancing and the use of face masks and hand sanitisers or hand-washing are required.

Individuals who have fever or symptoms such as cough, sore throat, flu, or breathing difficulties are not allowed to participate in the festival.

Those with chronic illnesses as well as senior citizens and children aged below 12 years old are also discouraged from attending.

In the SOP guidelines by SDMC and Unifor, it said that the management committee of cemeteries are responsible to appoint a minimum of three officers to monitor SOP compliance, whereas a minimum of two officers are required for columbaria and memorial halls.
