MIRI: The component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) must continue working together, especially when facing the coming 12th state election, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

“This is our responsibility to ensure a victory (in the state election). And every component party is part and parcel of the struggle and the fight for the rights of Sarawak,” he said during a dinner organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Miri last Sunday.

Awang Tengah, who is also the PBB deputy president, said he believed with strong cooperation among component parties, GPS would be able to continue governing the state led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

“Whether you’re from the urban, rural or coastal areas, we must support GPS.

“Our fight is to bring more development for the state, increase the wellbeing of our people, create jobs and education opportunities, produce skilled human resources, as well as to bring back the rights in oil and gas matters as stated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), Inter-Governmental Committee (IGC) Report, Federal and State Constitution,” he pointed out.

Awang Tengah further urged the GPS component parties to remain united and continue to ensure that Sarawak is stable, peaceful and developed.

“Only with unity and political stability, we can move forward. And despite our differences, that unity must be preserved.

“If we want our rights to be protected and our welfare to be looked after, we must make sure GPS remains as the government,” he said.

More than 70 members from PBB Miri comprising PBB Pujut, Piasau and Senadin branches including veteran members attended the dinner.

Also present were Assistant Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus; Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni; PBB Piasau branch chairman Councillor Sardon Zainal; PBB Senadin branch chairman Councillor Julaihi Mohamad; PBB Pujut Women chief Councillor Warzieda Ahmad and the event’s organising chairman cum political secretary to the chief minister Sarkawi Suhaili.
