2020 State Budget

KUCHING: The 2020 State Budget shows that the State government under GPS is serious in moving Sarawak forward in a more caring way where nobody is left behind.

It is a comprehensive budget to make up for the shortfalls from the federal budget, said Sarawak United People’s party (SUPP) Stakan branch chairman Sim Kiang Chiok.

“It is also a responsible budget as it has surplus for us to build up our reserves.

“It shows that the GPS state government cares and listens to Sarawakians by providing in the  budget a RM300 per month for fisherman with equipment assistance; to help out in PTPTN loan for Sarawakian graduates who are facing difficulties in making repayment with RM30 million being set aside for this purpose; RM450 to ease financial burden of mothers who just gave birth; free electrical connection up to RM5,000 and 70 per cent subsidies for connection charges between RM5,000 and RM10,000; and the first RM5 free water assistance for all households.”

Sim said the free school bus service is a good initiative by because it would not only help ease traffic jam but also reduce the cost of living for the B40 and M40 who were sending their children to schools in the cities.

Sim also commended on the RM30 million allocated for Sarawak Micro Credit to help small businesses to expand their operations or ease their tight cash flow.

On the whole, Sim described the budget as comprehensive, inclusive and caring, adding it would not only help reduce the cost of living.

Together with federal budget, it would bring Sarawak forward towards the target of achieving a developed status state by 2030, he added.
