KUCHING: Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian is worried over the safety of Sarawakians after three Indonesians tested positive for Covid-19 as reported last Sunday (Dec 27).

He said Case 1,106 went back to Indonesia and re-entered Sarawak via illegal trails, while Cases 1,107 and 1,108 went missing after they tested positive for the virus.

“No matter how much enforcement, the policy, the sacrifices of frontliners … if our small minority of recalcitrant fellow Sarawakians or Malaysians in Sarawak don’t wake up, the fourth Covid-19 wave will come,” he said in a Facebook post last Sunday (Dec 27).

“Therefore, it is important for everyone to play their part in protecting Sarawak,” he said.

In another post, Dr Sim urged those in the Covid-19 red zones not to return to the state for the time being.

“Sarawak has been excising its immigration autonomy for this very reason. However, immigration autonomy does not apply to fellow Sarawakians coming home to the state.

“If you are in any outbreak area outside the state, please temporarily don’t come home if possible,” he said.

He hoped Sarawakians outside the state would understand and make sacrifices for their families, friends and fellow Sarawakians in order to curb the spread of Covid-19.
