KUCHING: The government needs to reorganise and re-plan the future of the country’s economy based on the needs and aspirations of young people.

Pakan assemblyman, Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom said this was because almost 68 percent of human resources were supported by those under 40 years old.

“The government today has paid attention to the aspirations of the young people who make up 47 percent of the Malaysian population. This is clear by making ‘Dekad ini, dekat Anda’ (This Decade, Your Decade) the theme of this year’s National Youth Day celebration.

“The government is aware of the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said while officiating at the closing ceremony of the Rakan Muda ‘Day Out’ Consumerism Programme of Sarikei Division at Rumah Kilat, Tugong Pakan on Sunday (Nov 15).

Mawan added it was necessary to cultivate a culture of mutual respect among the young people to strengthen unity.

“With this intention, the government has taken the initiative through the Ministry of Youth and Sports together with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) to hold a Consumerism ‘Day Out’ Partner Programme.
