LAWAS: A construction worker’s quick thinking and bravery saved him from a potentially fatal crocodile attack in the mangrove area of Ulu Sungai Pelait Sundar last Wednesday (Feb 28).

In a statement, Lawas police chief DSP Liong Tindan said the 26-year-old victim was searching for molluscs in the mangrove area around 3.40pm when a large crocodile suddenly attacked him.

“He managed to escape the crocodile’s bite by poking its eye several times with his finger.

“The victim’s younger brother and nearby locals came to his rescue, pulling him to safety.

“However, the attack left the victim with injuries on his leg, thigh, arm, and body due to the crocodile’s ferocious bite,” he said.

The victim was initially taken to Lawas Hospital for treatment but was later referred to Limbang Hospital for further medical attention.

In light of this incident, the public are urged to be cautious and avoid any crocodiles in the area when conducting their daily activities at rivers and creeks.
