Consumerism carnival to focus on youth

KAPIT: Residents here have been invited to participate in a Youth Consumerism Advocacy Carnival which will be held on Nov 26 – 28 at Kapit Town Square.

The carnival is an initiative of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs to deepen knowledge on consumerism as well as to explain the role of the ministry and its agencies to especially the youth.

“Various activities have been planned from Nov 26-27 during the carnival including e-sport competition, slots with the ministry’s agencies, relaxation programme with the people, talks and quizzes as well as slots with leading e-wallet platform providers such as Boost, Shopee and Maybank.

“On top of that, a variety of attractive prizes also await individuals who attend and participate in the activities provided,” it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the launch of the Sarawak State Level Retail Sector Digitisation Initiative Programme (ReDI) will be held on Nov 28 at the carnival along with a REDI ‘Walkabout’ session at the e-wallet provider booth and around Teresang Market.

In the meantime, the ministry’s branch chief, Englebert Inggath Desmond Japar hoped youths would take this opportunity to obtain consumer information to increase their knowledge and look for opportunities to engage in business, especially online business to diversify their income sources.
