MUKAH: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Mukah Branch received 40 complaints from consumers during the movement control order (MCO) until the conditional movement control order (CMCO) from March 18 to June 4.

Mukah branch head Salihin Den said all the complaints had been investigated and found that there were 18 cases, of which nine cases were baseless, two were forwarded to other agencies and two would be sent to Malaysian Consumers Claim Tribunal (TTPM).

He added beside that, nine Section 21 Notice of Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act (AKHAP) 2011 had been sent to obtain information on pricing based on complaint from consumers.

“Of the total nine notices, we have opened one investigation paper for offence under Section 21 (5) that is, failing to comply an order given by assistant controller,” he said during a news conference at the ministry’s office here on Friday.

Elaborating on the investigation paper, Salihin revealed that the case was related to increasing the price of good, and the party involved was given five days to respond.

He added the response was late and the ministry suspected that the party concerned had flouted the law, thus an investigation paper was opened to analyse and determine the case.

Salihin also revealed that throughout the MCO and CMCO from March 18 until June 04, the ministry had conducted a total of 1,018 checks on business premises in town and rural areas.

He said 24 cases were recorded with goods seized worth RM8,012 while the compound involved was RM9,100.
