KUCHING: All water consumers in Sarawak are eligible for water bill discounts from April 1 to September 30 to reduce the people’s financial burden amid the Covid-19 pandemic, said Minister of Utilities Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

The bill discounts are on top of the RM5 free water from January 1 under the Sarawakku Sayang Special Aid Package (BKSS).

Following the outbreak of Covid-19 pandemic, the Sarawak government initiated sixteen proactive measures under BKSS to further reduce the financial burden of the rakyat, one of which is to provide water bill discounts over a period of six months, effective April 1, 2020 until Sept 30, 2020.

“Under this initiative, households with domestic accounts enjoy 25 percent discount, domestic/ commercial and commercial consumers enjoy 15 percent discount while industrial consumers enjoy 10 percent discount,” Dr Rundi elaborated in a statement yesterday.

He said the free water initiative would cost the Sarawak government about RM40 million per year.
