KUCHING: Content is king for Suara Sarawak (SV) as far as its editorial is concerned, said its chief executive officer Dr Jeniri Amir.

He revealed this at the launch of SV’s e-paper by Minister in Chief Minister’s Office (Integrity and Ombudsman), Datuk Talib Zupilip at Riverside Majestic Hotel on Sunday.

“Suara Sarawak serves its editorial contents to meet the taste and audience will by holding the principle.  In addition, the contents we serve are presented in an innovative and dynamic style with interesting infographics,” added Jeniri.

He explained that the aim of the e-paper was to expand the newspaper’s platform for a wider audience coverage regardless of geopolitical and time boundaries.

On Sunday, SV also celebrated its first anniversary.

Jeniri explained that the newspaper had emerged amidst a changing political and media landscape.

“The country and world media landscape face major challenges from the new media to the one-page print press. With three different platforms — print media, portal and e-paper — we believe we can reach a wider audience.

“The move to publish Suara Sarawak last year was taken because we believe in this state, there is still room for the print media. Our expectations were met when the newspaper grew rapidly and was welcomed by readers of all races from all walks of life,” he said.

Jeniri said SV’s staff consisted mostly of young people under the age of 30 with creative and engaging ideas.

He added the duties and responsibilities of the press were to spread authentic news.

“The media plays a role in forming the minds of society to be more mature as the mainstream media, especially newspapers, serve as platforms for communicating information, ideas, views and comments regarding major issues of democracy.

“In addition to prioritising the voice of the leader, we (SV) also convey the anxiety, concerns, problems and aspirations of the people, as well as the opposition’s voice.

“In real democracy; especially in democracy in the digital democratic era, the people’s voice cannot be marginalised or silenced,” said Jeniri.
