Contest attracts 50 muaythai proponents

KUCHING: A total of 50 martial arts exponents participated in the muaythai mini competition in conjunction with the state level Active@Martial Arts (AMA) 2022 programme at the Sting Muaythai Gym on Saturday.

The sport was competed in the amateur and wai crew or performance for Boys and Girls Teens categories from different age groups.

At the end of the competition, Mohd Nur Raikal Ismail, was proclaimed the champion in the 51-54kg Boys Teen category after beating Mohd Syasya Irfan Ismail while Zul Hizam Zulhisham was in third place.

In the girls’ 45-48kg category Nur Atiqah Musfirah Baharom won the top spot followed by Nur Iklil Zarifah Mohd Affandi as first runner-up and Ain Arissya Zulkeplie in third.

Hani Arissa Ismail was champion in the girls’ 30-35kg category after beating Qurratul Najwa Mohd Zaini while Nurtasihah Jahari was placed third.

In the Women’s Wai Crew category, the champion was Nur Arifah Mahsunah Baharom while Nurtasihah Jahari was first runner-up and Nur Atigah Musfirah Baharom in third.

In the Men’s Wai Crew, Shafiq Rushidi was proclaimed champion followed by Mohd Hasbullah Mood in second place and Mohd Hairol Salmi in third.

Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu represented Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah to declare open the contest that was held at State Lawn Bowls Arena, in Petra Jaya.

The director of state Youth and Sports Department Lamat Nyalau was given the honour to officiate at the closing ceremony later in evening of the same day.

Also present was Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim.
