KUCHING: The rural areas of Sarawak will continue to be developed to bridge the gap between the heartland and urban areas, assured Deputy Rural Development Minister Datuk Henry Sum Agong.
He said the Rural Development Ministry would develop rural areas in stages and according to priority.
“The government strives to bring more progress and development, especially in rural areas of the state.
“This can be seen through the continuous development brought by the government in rural areas such as roads, water and electricity supply, infrastructure and so on.
“However, this development is carried out in stages and according to priority and will implemented one by one,” he said when officiating at the Merdeka @ Komuniti programme in Lawas last Thursday.
Meanwhile, Lawas District Information officer Idris Hasan said the Merdeka @ Komuniti programme was first organised in 2013 and was an annual event to commemorate the National Day celebration.
“This programme is an initiative under the Communications and Multimedia Ministry through the Information Department to invigorate and stir the spirit of patriotism.
“This is also to increase the people’s awareness and their appreciation of independence in this country,” he said.
Also present were Lawas district officer Laidin Atok, Penghulu Kading Palong, heads of departments and community leaders.
