KUCHING: Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri hopes Budget 2023 will continue to focus on assisting the tourism industry players and to boost domestic tourism.

She said the government could provide some grants to help the travel agencies, homestay operators, eco-tourism to improve their services or increase their products.

“We hope by doing so, it can attract more people, including the locals to travel within the country. We want them to spend in the country so that it will help to boost the economy as well,” she told the reporters after the launch of Simunjan Esplanade here yesterday.

The industry players, she said, must also have their own initiatives to enhance their services and products as well as be ready to grab various potential opportunities.

For instance, Nancy said, Kuching always lacks hotel rooms; hence, homestay operators should see this as an opportunity and know how to attract more guests.

By helping the tourism industry in the country, she said, would also bring in more high-spending tourists. This could also provide a strong impetus for the post COVID-019 economic recovery

“We hope more allocations will be given to the ministry as boost to the tourism industry will definitely catalyse various business activities as well,” she added.
