KUCHING: Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi called for the community to continue to uphold unity amongst each other.

This was said by the Pantai Damai assemblyman during a Chinese New Year gathering at Bandar Baru Semariang on Friday night.

Upon his arrival, he was greeted by the beating of the drums and gongs which was accompanied by a blue-themed lion dance performance.

Due to the outrage of the lions’ colour, Abdul Rahman announced that he will provide funds to the Bandar Baru Semariang lion dance group to have a pair red lions for next Chinese New Year, as an effort to endorse the culture of respect and tolerance among youngsters.

”Such initiatives would be a great platform for the Sarawak community to strengthen their bonds and empower the value of togetherness”, he explained.

He also stressed that unity is the foundation for Sarawak to continue its development plans in the future.

“If the elders show their love to the young, the young will respect the elders” he said.

The gathering was organised by Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB)in collaboration with the Chinese Community Association of Bandar Baru Semariang.

Abdul Rahman and his wife also presented aids to 30 recipients.
