LAWAS: Marine police have seized RM26,345 worth of contraband beer nearby Jalan Pulau Salam here on Tuesday night.
According to Region Five commander PPM ACP Shamsol Kassim, a team of Limbang Marine Police came across a car bearing a foreign number plate, driven by a man while approaching the area at 9.20pm.
Upon inspecting the car, the team found what was believed to be cartons of contraband beer.
The driver, however, managed to escape into the nearby jungle.
The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967 for the possession of undeclared items without approval from the Customs department.
