Contraband cigs, liquors worth RM13, 985 seized

The contraband cigarettes and liquors seized by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

BINTULU: The Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM) Bintulu on Monday seized contraband cigarettes and liquors valued at RM13, 985 with unpaid duties worth about RM132, 218.75 from premises near Jalan Sibiyu. 

According to Sarawak Customs Director Datuk Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha, the raid was conducted by   members of the Bintulu Customs Enforcement Division.

“Initial examination found 115,000 white cigarette bars, 79,360 cigarettes of various brands, and 29 litres of liquor   on the top floor of the premises

“A 43-year-old man has also been arrested to assist in the investigation,” she said in a statement yesterday.

The contraband cigarettes and liquors seized by the Royal Malaysian Customs Department.

She added the goods were believed to be marketed to local customers.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.

If convicted, the suspect could be fined RM100, 000 or jailed not more than five years.
