Contraband cigs seized, woman detained

MIRI: Customs officers raided a location in Sungai Tujoh on Tuesday and seized 29,156 cigarettes of various brands with an estimated valued of RM3,648.32 and unpaid tax amounting to RM21,693.29.

They also detained a 23-year-old woman to assist in the investigation, disclosed Sarawak Customs director Dato Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha in a press statement yesterday.

She said the raid was conducted on July 23 at about 2.3pm.

“The enforcement team raided a shop in Sungai Tujoh in Miri and found the cigarettes while inspecting the premises.”

She added that some of the cigarettes were found hidden in the shop’s toilet.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
