PUSA: Some members of the general operations force (GOF), who raided a vacant house here, seized contraband cigarettes worth nearly RM130,000.

The confiscated items comprised 18 boxes of various types and brands of cigarettes suspected to be with unpaid tax and Customs duties, said a GOF spokesman.

He said the raid was carried out on Tuesday (Mar 8) at around 1pm based on intelligence gathered during Ops Contraband.

“After waiting for two hours, no one came forward to claim responsibility for the contraband,” he said in a statement today.

He said the total amount of confiscation including tax was estimated at RM129,738.

“The case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967 and the seizure was brought back and handed over to the Betong Police Station for further action.”

It was believed that the culprits’ modus operandi included storing goods in the garden area of a vacant house to be supplied to conspiring premises in Pusa.

“To distract the authorities, these stores are used to store stock for current use. Further monitoring will continue,” said the spokesman.
