Contraband items worth over RM75k seized

BINTANGOR: The Sarawak Marine Police have arrested a man and seized duty-unpaid liquor and cigarettes worth RM79,728 in an operation here.

Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said the operations took place at a residential house at 11.30am last Friday.

“During the ‘Ops Landai Covid’, a team of four personnel carried out an inspection on the said house.

“The team found various types of duty-unpaid liquor and cigarettes, and arrested a 41-year-old man as he failed to produce any relevant documents,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The confiscated items included 7,296 cans of Snow beer; 480 cans of Tiger beer, 108 bottles of Tsingtao beer, and 2,000 sticks of Arrow Black Menthol and Arrow Full Flavor cigarettes each.

ACP Shamsol added that the individual and seized items were brought to the Bintangor police station for further action, and the case was being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.
