KUCHING: Contraband liquor worth RM87,000 was seized by the 11th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) during its Op Libas at Lorong Stapok Selatan 11B here at 4.30pm on Monday.

According to its commanding officer Supt Rosdi Inai in a statement yesterday, his men and three Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers seized a total of 545 boxes of alcoholic drinks of various brands as well as 300,000 units of counterfeit Customs ‘Duty Paid’ stickers.

“Acting on information obtained by our intelligence unit, the team found the contraband goods
hidden in two containers. They were believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country by road and were intended for the local market.

“The case and seized items have been handed over to the Padawan district police headquarters (IPD) for further investigation. However, no arrest was made during the raid,” he added.

In the meantime, the PGA advises the public to always provide cooperation and channel information to the authorities, especially the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) to combat crime in the state.
