MIRI: Alcohol and cigarettes with an unpaid duty of RM908,026 were seized by the Customs Department from a lorry in Jalan Sepupok, Batu Niah, on June 16 around 4pm.

Sarawak Customs director Herman Shah Abdullah said during the operations, enforcement officers had tailed a lorry laden with the contraband after spotting the suspicious vehicle.

“520,600 sticks of white cigarettes, 539,440 sticks of clove cigarettes, 18kg of tobacco and 3,636.58 litres of beer were found inside the lorry and subsequently seized,” he said in a press statement released on Monday (June 21).

The lorry driver fled the scene after stopping the lorry by the roadside.

The case is being investigated under Section 135 of the Customs Act 1967.
