BINTULU: Sarawak Marine Police arrested a premises owner and seized contraband cigarettes and liquor worth RM32,881.60 in an operation on Saturday.

Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 commander ACP Shamsol Kassim revealed the arrest was made around 1.30pm on a premises at Sungai Nyigu.

“A team inspected the premises and seized 125 cartons of various brands of liquor worth RM15,000.

“Apart from that, 130 cartons of various brands of cigarettes worth RM17,881.60 were also seized,” he said in a statement.

Shamsol said that during the operation, the owner of the premises who is in his 30s, was arrested after he failed to produce any documents regarding the illicit goods.

He noted that the case is being investigated under Section 135 (1) (d) of the Customs Act 1967.

Contraband worth RM32,881.60 were seized.
