BETONG: Contractors appointed to deliver rural transformation projects (RTPs) here have been reminded to carry out their responsibilities according to schedule.

Layar assemblyman Gerald Rentap Jabu said this is important in order to ensure the beneficiaries of projects would be able to enjoy their new facilities in time.

“These Projek Rakyat involves a lot of money. Do ensure that they are properly implemented and on time,” he said before attending a briefing on RTP implementation for the Bukit Saban and Layar constituencies held at the Betong Resident’s Office here today.

Political secretary to the chief minister Dr Richard Rapu represented Bukit Saban assemblyman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas at the function as he is currently on leave to recuperate after undergoing a minor operation recently.

Rentap said that if contractors failed to deliver on time, this would bring about frustrations and dissatisfaction from those concerned.

“As their representatives, we will be on the receiving end of their frustrations and anger.

“So please shape up or ship out. The government may resort to further action of blacklisting the errant ones,” he warned.

He also said that in some cases, there were contractors who refused to listen to suggestions from the people regarding implementation.

“I hope both sides will be willing to compromise. If there are issues, please bring them up to us or the Resident and district office,” he said.

At the function, Rentap also presented grants totalling RM40,000 to four government departments here.

Betong Division Resident Friday Belik and his deputy Abang Mohamad Abang Trukey were among those present.
